Here is the live set that Norwegian breakcore act Kamerat Tord played at Spasibar. Check out his myspace site and listen to the song “Loona”. My fave track at the moment!
Back in 1991 at the age of 12 I bought myself two turntables & a mixer and founded together with an american friend the Hip Hop- project “MC D & DJ Freeze” . Through this I could make my first experience on stage.
Already in 1994 I was one of the resident-Dj’s in the “legendary” Ohm-Club (Mannheim). I also spinned my records in the Milk!-Club.
A party with DJ Hype in may 1994 probably had the bigest influence on me and I was able to learn a lot from him. My Hip Hop influences helped me quite much and I continued to develop my technical skills. Read the rest of this entry »
Foundation Stepper has selected a mix of dubwise, jungle and reggae beats out and about and around Melbourne since 2001. His reggae, dub and downbeat residencies and support slots include gigs with The Red Eyes, Chant Down, Ruffneck Souljahs, Livewire and Dialekt.
He has also played gigs in NZ and Japan, appearing at Disco Beans, Osaka as well as some other venue where the reggae heads were quite confused by what he was playing.
His reggae sets sway towards a roots focus, foundation era tunes and nuff 70’s dubwise… with a healthy serving of tricky dancehall riddims and outernational dub and ragga experiments…
Foundation Steppers jungle sets are a polyrhythmic mash-up of new school ragga sounds, toxic dancehall and concrete jungle with smatterings of breakcore, dub bass and eleven secret herbs and spices. Read the rest of this entry »
The Sock Monster is a rare, turntable wielding creature from the outback of Australia.
His unique mashed up style serves up toxic dancehall, dub bass and ragga toasts with a healthy dollop of broke beats.
The Sock Monster has been represented on the website of the legendary Mashit jungle label.
He’s been known to galavant with the creepy old Russian which known as Baba Yaga, who rides around in a mortar and pestle, has a hut on chicken legs, and iron teeth.
Dave Refusenik is a transplanted DJ originally from Moscow via Boston and now Buenos Aires. With all that traveling there’s no wonder his newest mixtape “Kold Krussian” is so cross-culturally fresh.
Mixing in tons of genres in an hour set is nothing new for this DJ, his sets at Zizek, among other parties, have proven that. His energy is contagious and his blends are sweet.
Refusenik dixit – “With this mix I was looking to create a set of songs that span many different genres while maintaining a sense of flow from one track to the next. I have been lucky enough to meet and perform with many amazing DJs and producers in Boston (DJ C, Baltimoroder) and Buenos Aires (Oro11, El Hijo De La Cumbia, El Remolón, Daleduro), so I also wanted to showcase their considerable talents through this mix.
This set was awesome to watch. Rob controlled Ableton on his laptop using a Nintendo Wii controller, basically meaning hands free control. You couldn’t tell where the performing stopped and the dancing began!!
